But remember we are not just looking for a good treatment; we are looking for an exceptional one, without blowing our budget. If you take a closer look you can find a complete description of the ingredients it uses, and the ingredient list is actually fairly impressive.  It uses peptides which we all know are the best for healing wrinkles and stimulating collagen, and by combining them with natural extracts like cucumber extract and green tea extract creates a well balanced formula.  The active ingredient that specifically treats the dark circles is Hesperidin methyl chalcone.  It is not as effective as Haloxyl, for example, but it does have some anti oxidants which are always helpful.  Dark circles are usually very difficult to heal completely and need the best ingredients.  Revitalume seems to come up short with this particular active ingredient and it came as no surprise that we saw only limited results when we tested this product.

Here is what we mean: Dark circles are actually caused by particles of blood that have more or less “leaked” out of capillaries.  When this happens, these “loose blood particles” group together in certain parts of the skin and cause the discoloration we commonly call dark circles.  Well, as you can imagine, not just any of the typical moisturizing ingredients that are common (like what revitalume uses) can actually “clean up” these loose particles and clear up the dark circle.  Sure, their ingredients might help to keep the skin moist, thus reducing the likelihood of getting circles at first, but once you have them, you need a real ingredient to clean up the damage.  Be cautions when an eye gel claims to “work” on dark circles, because unless they contain an ingredient like Haloxyl, which is documented as being able to rid skin of the loose blood particles, then it’s likely the gel won’t work.

Company Reliability
Revitalume offers a fairly well documented return policy the details of which are on their website.  We are always more comfortable when a company has a return policy because companies should back up their products.   From our experience with this company, it seems to be a reliable one.  We just think that they could have chosen better ingredients to specifically treat the dark circles.  This is, after all, the name of the product.

Complaints of this product and company are also minimal in comparison to others.  The big thing that sticks out to us is that many customers do not choose to reorder this product.  They do not feel like it is a “rip off” but it does not impress them enough to continue its use.  It is a middle of the road product and its customer loyalty reflects that.

As with all products, we began our review by taking a look into the ingredients as well as the company’s reputation.  What we found was somewhat concerning to say the least.  First and foremost it seems that the Better Business Bureau has some sort of complaint against IQ Derma for their advertising methods.  Now, IQ Derma has appealed this and we all know that in order to receive a BBB review you must PAY them, so we do not put too much emphasis on this report.   However, it is certainly worth noting here for those consumers who place trust in the BBB.

What was concerning was that fact that IQ Derma keeps their ingredients somewhat private.  You can find the information if you take the time to spend hours backing into the formulas by following clinical information links, but it is not presented clearly as we would hope a quality product would do.  IQ Derma seems to make their formulation proprietary information rather that sharing the active ingredients with the public.  Again, quality ingredients provide quality results and a wrinkle company should be excited to share that, as it would only aid in the generation of sales.

IQ Derma is the latest in the Free Trial marketers that say little about why the product will work, and try to support their outrageous claims with “testimonials” of consumers that can neither be verified nor seem to be written by actual consumers.  It seems like they were written by marketing executives, which again leaves us uneasy.

Company Reliability
As we mentioned we do not want to make much out of the Better Business Bureau’s claim, however it does require notation.  With the exceptions of IQ Derma listed complaint with the BBB and their lack of sharing important ingredient information, we did not find or experience anything that gave us a bad impression of the organization.   We are hesitant of the free trial marketing when you do not know what the ingredients are, because that behavior usually results in a bad experience.

Unfortunately, there is very little information on eyevive’s website that explains what each of their ingredients is, and how they work.  We hate it, frankly, when a company says their product uses a “proprietary blend” or “xyz technology” to accomplish what they claim their product can do.   This is exactly what we encountered when we dug a little deeper at eyevive’s website.

What do the CLAIM to do? Their website says that eyevive eye gel can reduce wrinkles and bags, increase firmness, less dark circles, and hydrate the skin.   Basically the same claim that every eye gel makes.  The difference is usually, in what ingredients a product uses to accomplish this.    On one page of their site, we found an ingredient list.  Without having a phd in science, we see that they have hyaluronic acid for hydration (which might lead to wrinkle loss), and Palmitoyl Oligopeptide (a generic matrixyl)  and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 (another peptide known to increase elasticity).  No ingredient listed is known to target puffy under-eye bags specifically.

We tried the product out, and our users had pronounced eye wrinkles and dark circles.  After 3 weeks, we felt that our skin was indeed more moist.  Similar was the feeling of using a decent drustore moisturizing cream.   It is non oily and is pretty comfortable to wear.   The wrinkles on our eye area, however, showed very little to no improvement.  Perhaps over much  more time, we could have seen some results, but we were not encouraged by the improvement in the amount of time we tested.

In regard to the elimination of dark circles, we were left flat.  The ingredient list of the product doesn’t show any ingredients that are scientifically backed and linked to the reduction of blood-caused pigmentation of the skin (dark circles), but we hoped that maybe we just didn’t KNOW about what their ingredients did.   After the 3 week test period, nothing at all had improved about our discolored dark circles.  Literally.    We were pretty disappointed, but overall, the cream was decent and felt like something we could continue to use.. just not with the hopes of removing our dark circles.   If the cream cost more like $19 or so, we could recommend it as a good moisturizer and a mild wrinkle smoother.  However, it’s in several price brackets higher, so we can’t give it the thumbs up.

Customer Service:

This is a good company who seems to care for its clients.  They offer email support, as well as phone and fax.   Additionally, there is a money back guarantee offered on their products, which can make it easier to try them.   We did NOT attempt to get a refund, however, so we don’t know for sure if they actually follow through on their “refund promise”.   Based on their history though, and the attentiveness we received over the phone, we feel that the company can be trusted.

Complaint Index:

We have received no complaints about this company.  Users of the eyevive product have expressed that they were less than pleased with the results, but that they didn’t feel ripped off, and that the company seemed to take responsibility for their products.

High end ingredients: Haloxyl for dark circles, and Eyeliss for the bags can’t be surpassed.  Haloxyl works by breaking down blood particles that have seeped from the capilaries and cause the discoloration around the eye area.  On top of that, Eyeliss helps lymphatic drainage enough to the point where participants in the laboratory clinical trials made significant improvement in both the depth and fullness of their bags.

An antioxidant approach to wrinkles: Two of the most talked about ingredients, including the Oprah show and Dr. Oz, are Acai berry and Resveratrol.   Yes, these same ingredients that have been hyped up for overall health and weight loss, are also making claims to have good effects on the skin.  If you think about it, your skin is actually the biggest organ in your body.  While the amazing acai berry and resveratrol can toxify and have “anti aging” effects on the liver, lungs, kidneys, etc. SO CAN THEY effect your skin.  While removing toxins and allowing your skin to heal itself and regain its youthful look, the concept is that your wrinkles might lessen too.

Customer Service: We have visited the EliteSerum.com website where this product is sold, and have found that they offer service via both live chat (which they actually answer, unlike many companies) and a Toll Free number.  They offer a money back guarantee on their products too, which makes it much more comfortable to try them.

Avalon Organics Eye Gel

Avalon Organics Eye Gel Got a 50/100 Rating but for the price, it is really a good product. Read on before dismissing this eye gel.

The Revitalizng Eye Gel from Avalon Organics is the lowest priced eye gel reviewed on our site.   For those of you hoping to buy an eye gel under $20, this is a really good choice.   Since you don’t buy this product direct from Avalon, it’s tough for me to give you a rating on customer service, or their guarantee.  Basically, this falls on the individual retailer that you purchase from.   Instead, I’ll go over how the eye gel worked for me, and hopefully my story can guide you a little bit.

What does it do? Well the eye gel claims to have a peptide complex and hyaluronic acid.   We love both of these ingredients.   Hyaluronic acid is a proven moisturizer that is very common in both expensive, and low priced eye gels.   It adds deep moisture to the skin, which is great for wrinkles.

The part about a “Peptide Complex” was more interesting to us.   The best of the best eye gels use peptides like matrixyl, haloxyl, or eyeliss… or something similar.   The thing is, creams or gels that contain these peptides cost usually around $100.   Avalon organics didnt reveal exactly what “peptides” are in its “Peptide complex” but we can’t really complain, since it costs like one-tenth of the the amount of the usual peptide based products.

Other cool ingredients: Licorice root and lavender.   I’m not sure if these ingredients are proven in any way to reduce wrinkles, dark circles, or puffy eye bags, but they are displayed as key ingredients right on the box.   Sounds more like marketing material to me, but the product DOES contain them, so i’m lettin gyou know.

My results: Basically I felt like I was using any old moisturizer.  I can’t say that my dark circles were reduced, or that the puffiness around my eyes became less.   I felt like my skin had some good moisture to it, and the product was comfortable to wear and was non greasy.  I could easily incorporate it into my daily skin care routine, although I personally didn’t see any immediate results from using it.

If this website was rating only eye gels in this price range, I would give Avalon Organics a much higher score than 50/100.  However, since the cost of a product isn’t a part of my rating system, I have to place Avalon Organics at a much lower score, based on how it worked on my skin and the scientific backup of the ingredients contained.

DDF Erase Eye Gel

DDF Erase Eye Gel got a 70/100 rating as an eye gel.

Our first curiosity was to see what the proprietary blend that DDF boasts about could actually work on dark circles and bags.  Dark circles are caused by “loose blood” particles that are floating around under the skin, and causing it to be discolored.  When we are presented by a product like DDF Erase Eye gel, that doesn’t tell us WHY or HOW their ingredients work, we’re a little skeptical, and frankly, rightly so.  We didn’t get much results with our testing.

What stuck out to us even more is the use of harsh parabens, which we hesitate to endorse in the formulation of eye products.  While their use is approved by governing bodies, these preservatives are not always the most healthy for your skin, and certainly not for the delicate skin underneath the eyes.  They are not proven to have a link between disease, but many people avoid them nonetheless.

According to their website, DDF Eye Erase Gel is a deep moisturizing product and it helps your skin retain proper levels of hydration but when it comes to the removal of dark circles, it just did not deliver for us in particular.  We spent a considerable amount of time researching for more information about this product, however we could only find limited information.  While the DDF product line is fairly well established, we were surprised to only find small excerpts about the product everywhere that we looked.  We spoke with many consumers who have used the product, as well as conducted our own independent testing and the results were all the same.  This is a quality eye moisturizing product due to its use of Hyaluronic Acid, however it just does not cut the mustard in dark circle removal.   It’s a decent, affordable moisturizer, that’s all.

Company Reliability

DDF is a fairly well established product line, although we were rather puzzled by the fact that there is such limited info about this product.  Even the company website offers less than 4 sentences on the product, which left us uncomfortable.  The obvious lack of a return policy did little to reassure us.

We did not have any complaints about reactions, although some did claim to dislike wearing the product.   Most of the feedback that we received revolved around a dissatisfaction of results and our independent tests supported those claims.  Unfortunately, this just does not work, according to our personal experience.

SkinCeuticals Eye Gel AOX+

Skinceuticals Eye Gel AOX+ Got the rating of 60/100.

We certainly endorse anti oxidants, but would rather have seen this product have combined some sort of therapeutic ingredients in the formula as well.  Obviously this is an attempt to make consumers purchase the other half of their eye products, effectively doubling the cost of their products. 

SkinCeuticals has two categories of products, products that prevent and products that correct.  While this provides consumers the options and freedom to choose the type of treatment they desire, the company intends on consumers purchasing two products rather than combining the two treatments into one bottle.  While marketing campaigns like this are not unethical, it demonstrates a clear focus on profits, vs. consumer satisfaction, which is a large concern of ours. 

Company Reliability

We take exception to companies that try to trick consumers or take advantage of them under the guise of ulterior motives.  Whether it is a mandatory auto ship program or separating treatment and prevention options in an obvious attempt to maximize profits, consumers are not the main focus.  And when you consider the cost of the products and the need for continued use, we prefer to work with companies that actually care about the well being of their customers.

Consumer complaints were relatively minimal for SkinCeuticals, however there were reports of lack of customer service.  We did not have that experience ourselves, but felt it important enough to notate.  Other complaints seem to revolve around the same issue we had, the blatant separation of products in an attempt to make as much money as possible.

Eyelastin Eye Gel

Eyelastin eye gel got a 65/100 rating.

The good news is that Eyelastin targets dark circles, bags, and wrinkles.. the three main problems with the eye area.  Too often, a so called “eye gel” only treats one of the three big symptoms. 

Eyelastin uses Argireline, Hyaluronic acid, and generic matrixyl, arnica, and synake.   These ingredients attempt to smooth, moisturize, “relax muscles” and reduce swelling.   They use the old “proprietary blend” curtain to hide behind, so we don’t, unfortunately, get to find out what concentration % the eye gel contains of each ingredient.

Truthfully, many “drugstore” type of eye gels that cost less than $10, contain hyaluronic acid and argireline, so we were left with the generic matrixyl, and synake to validate the cost of this eye gel, at $59.    We had hoped to see a better ingredient for directly addressing the dark circles and puffy eye bags, than the ones that Eyelastin contains.  In our opinion, besides the Matrixyl, it lacks any serious ingredients proven for circles and bags.

How it worked when we tried it was sort of disappointing.  We did feel a nice smoothing of the skin, and some minor wrinkle reduction.  There was virtually no improvement, however, on the discoloration or bagginess.  Perhaps the concentrations of the ingredietns was just a little too low to yield results in the short time we tested.   It appears that the consumers who commented, also agreed.

Customer Service:  The company offers a lot of information on their website about how to contact them, and plenty of email addresses and phone numbers.  Their physical address is plainly available.  They DO offer a 30 day money back guarantee, but charge a 25% “administration” fee.   We have NO PROBLEM with this, as there are too many consumers who commit “refund abuse” and try to get free products.

Complaint Index:  We have received no complaints about Eyelastin regarding the level of service or receiving the product.  Some consumers have reported being let down by the results of using the eye gel, but they seem to have been satisifactorily taken care of by the company.
